Find Your Voice

Be seen. Be heard. Be understood.

Do any of these sound familiar?

You want to speak up more at work.
You struggle with being heard in the workplace, often having to repeat yourself during conversations. You don’t feel confident at team meetings. It’s hard to speak up in front of others. It’s even harder to convince others of your ideas. Your colleagues get promoted instead of you because you can’t present your work well. You wish you could speak confidently in front of your bosses and peers.

You want to connect more with others.
You find it difficult to make meaningful connections with the people around you. You want to be more comfortable with showing your true, cheerful, authentic self to your family and loved ones. You wish to express yourself more honestly, open up more and connect better with others.

You want to sing without embarrassing yourself.
When you go to KTV with your friends, you wish you had more confidence in your singing. You wish to get the pitch and tempo right so that you can perform well in front of your peers. You know that your voice may be a little rusty and just needs a bit of work. You want to perform your favourite songs to a reasonable standard.

You just want to express yourself.
You wish that you could sing out how you really feel and say what you really want to say. But you’ve grown up learning to “stay in your place” and that you were “better seen and not heard.” You’ve become used to holding your tongue and swallowing your words. You want to express what’s really in your heart. You wish to be understood by others. You want to express your true self.

Communicating well drastically improves your ability to convince and be understood.

In the workplace, communicating well allows you to convince your bosses clients and colleagues of your ideas. You gain more influence and recognition, which translates into more opportunities for career growth and advancement.

In relationships, communicating well allows you to be understood. It helps you let someone else into your world so you feel less lonely. When you express how you really feel your loved ones can understand and empathise with you. You connect deeply with people that matter.

In social settings, communicating well allows you to be seen and heard by others. When you’re able to express your thoughts and ideas with certainty and clarity, when you’re able to speak with confidence, people are naturally drawn to you and want to listen to what you have to say.

You don’t have to keep your voice inside and feel like you are never heard.

You don’t have to be passed over for opportunities because you cannot speak up.

You don’t have to struggle with feeling embarrassed or misunderstood.

You can express yourself freely and joyfully with others.

You can be confident of who you are.

You can find your own voice and be heard.

And it all starts with learning how to use your voice – through singing!

Let’s Sing! is a fun and interactive workshop for non-professional singers to improve your singing and overall vocal expression.

Whether you’re a total beginner or have years of experience, we’ve got a variety of activities designed to develop your voice and help you express yourself authentically, so you may begin to discover your personal voice and singing style.

Singing enhances your ability to communicate effectively

Singing is a powerful and efficient tool to enhance your vocal and expression skills.

When we sing, we can access emotion in our voice more quickly and directly than through speaking.

Your ability to convey emotion significantly affects your ability to persuade, convince and be understood.

At the same time, singing has technical aspects that exercise, improve and enhance your vocal abilities.

Through the variation in mood, pitch and rhythm found in songs, singing directly impacts your ability to convey a range of sounds and emotions, and your expression becomes instantly more attractive!

Furthermore, in a workshop setting, singing in front of a group allows you to gradually overcome your performance anxiety and stage fright. Thus you gain confidence communicating in front of others, even strangers!

PLUS singing also has significant health benefits – making us feel less stressed, while increasing our feelings of happiness and well-being. And this is especially more so when we sing together in a group! (Why do you think we enjoy singing and karaoke sessions so much? :D)

Hi, we’re Shuying, MaryAnn and Jacelyn!

We’re a dedicated team of vocal coaches committed to improving your communication and expression.

Shuying

Like you, I struggled with finding my voice. I spent many years believing that I couldn’t sing. That my voice wasn’t worth hearing.

One day I realised that I wanted to express myself truly! Authentically! Joyfully! I started doing all kinds of crazy things. I joined a band as their lead vocalist. I started singing in front of strangers. I busked along Orchard Road.

Now I have no problem expressing myself and performing in public! I even speak to others for a living. I am a vocal instructor, trainer, and life coach.

I’ve helped many clients find authentic ways to express themselves. I would love to support you in your journey to find your voice as well.

MaryAnn

MaryAnn is an artist proficient in various means of creative expression, having spent her life exploring different paths in the arts – creative writing, acting, and singing. In her final semester as a Songwriting major in the U.S., MaryAnn enrolled in a drawing class and reconnected to her childhood artist dream. In early 2013, she organised her first solo exhibition within 2 months, thus launching her career as a visual artist. While she’s currently on a mission to paint 100 murals around the world, she’s also a vocal coach and a creative coach, drawing from her experiences and creative proficiencies to connect people with their dreams and aspirations, thus allowing them to discover unique and authentic means of expressing themselves.

Jacelyn

Jacelyn started on her singing journey at 9 when she joined the school choir upon her music teacher’s invitation. She later went on to join auditions and became part of the Lee Wei Song School of Music Pop Choir for 2 years, where she underwent vocal trainings by the famous composers, Lee Wei Song and Lee Si Song. She recently completed a 65-day singing project as an avenue for self-expression.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How is this singing workshop different from others in the market?

Singing techniques are taught in many places, usually priced at $50-100 per hour for group classes, and higher for individual sessions. The majority of these singing instructors tend to focus heavily on vocal technique and training — but singing is also about overcoming our psychological and emotional barriers to self-expression so we can be confident as ourselves.

As trained life coaches and vocal instructors, we provide a holistic approach that can not only improve your voice, but also help you identify areas of development in your expression of yourself. With years of training as coaches, we can help you overcome barriers to your confidence and self-expression with more precision than a trainer skilled only in vocal technique and mechanics.

Singing lessons and vocal training are only for professional singers or speakers.

Singing is for everyone, not just professional singers. Learning how to express ourselves yields tremendous benefits in all areas of our lives. At work, it allows us to present ourselves well and bring our ideas across, creating greater impact i n our workplace. In our personal lives, it enables us to develop deep relationships with loved ones, helping us create love and understanding. Romantically, being able to express ourselves enables us to attract the right partner and present ourselves well in front of them.

We are a creative by nature. In tribal cultures the community gathers to sing regularly. Singing was very much a part of our social lives as it helped the group to bond and reach transcendent states. Everybody can sing. It is only in recent times that we began segregating art consumers from those who create. Artists and performers are just those who make a living through their creations. The truth is we all have creative power within us. You have your own voice too.

Can singing help me with my speaking?

Yes! We use our voices to say what we need to say. We use our voice to communicate and connect with people. Singing is about finding confidence to use our voice, to speak out, to come out of our shell to communicate with people and the external world.

When you learn to sing, you are training your ability to express yourself through your voice, and that will improve your speaking ability as well. In fact, we’ve had past clients who used singing as an avenue to improve their public speaking and professional presentation abilities.

I feel shy singing in front of strangers.

The class will be a supportive and fun environment for everyone to learn together. We come as strangers but leave as friends! Don’t worry if you are awkward or have stage fright. Everyone has similar concerns and anxieties, that’s why we have a group workshop so we can support one another through these fears. Many of us are shy, have fears of not being good enough, and have fears of judgment. What matters is that we are willing to work through them, and help create a safe space for others to work through these fears as well.
